Care and Feeding of your New Cutting Board

also applies to the trivets and coasters

Oiling- Apply only food-safe mineral oil to your board on all sides at least once a month, depending on how much you use your board. You can’t hurt it by oiling too much. If it appears dry at all, oil is needed.  A mix of beeswax and mineral oil is a great way to keep your board smooth and well-coated.

Cleaning- After using your cutting board, it can be cleaned with water and a mild soap. Always wash both sides to prevent issues from uneven water absorption. After washing, dry your cutting board with a cloth and allow it to air-dry on the counter.

Never put your cutting board in the dishwasher!!!!

Cutting Board Maintenance

If the board gets heavily scratched or has a rough feel from washing, it can be
sanded smooth again with 220 grit or finer sandpaper. The rough feeling is called raised grain.  I have pre-raised the grain on my boards already but it is possible over time for the grains to raise again. After sanding and cleaning, apply a fresh coat of food-safe mineral oil or butcher block conditioner.
